What does a Death Doula do?

I am a non-medical guide to help navigate the chaos that often comes with an end-of-life diagnosis and the unknowns; before, during, and after the dying process. I help to identify and anticipate the changes and bridge with you as a companion through these transitions.  I support you and your loved ones to face challenging tasks and make difficult decisions.

Why do I need a Death Doula?

I can provide a reassuring and calming presence for my client while being a compassionate resource for friends, family, and caregivers who may be grieving and overwhelmed.

How do I know it is time to contact a Death Doula?

Bringing a Death Doula in to support is beneficial at any point. Beginning sooner can deepen connections, especially with memory-impacting illnesses, allow for more personal and quality care plans, identify important end-of-life needs, and co-create sacred space for the dying and their loved ones.

What is MAiD?

Medical Aid in Dying (MAiD) is a safe and trusted medical practice in which a terminally ill, mentally capable adult with a prognosis of six months or less to live may request from his or her doctor a prescription for medication which they can choose to self-ingest to bring about a peaceful death. I have additional training in MAiD support.

Do you work with families who wish to take MAiD?

I fully support an individual’s right to utilize MAiD to end suffering related to a terminal disease and have received additional training from the American Clinicians Academy on Medical Aid in Dying. I believe the patient and family need to be accompanied in this process. I would be honored to offer education, resources, guidance, and support.

DO YOU WORK WITH DEMENTIA PATIENTS?

I have additional training to support clients with dementia. We can work together in the early-mid stages of the disease. Care during later stages of dementia is also available but will look different based on disease progression. I will also work with family and friends to support you during the many changes and phases of dementia.

Do you replace hospice care?

As a non-medical guide, I do not replace hospice, but I support you in conjunction with hospice to help the experience be more fully personalized throughout your care, during the vigil, and at death.

What do you charge for care?

Please connect with me for an initial conversation and to ensure we are a good fit. I work on a sliding scale for individualized packages based on needs, time, and services requested.  I would be happy to discuss this with you further.
